The first meeting of the Mandal took place in Kilburn on the 23rd January 1955. The name adopted at this inaugural meeting of our Darji Community was ‘Shree London Ma Vasta Darji Gnati Jano’.
Three years later on 23rd August 1958, the organisation had grown and become a constituted body called ‘Shree Darji Mitra Mandal of UK’. These founder members saw the need to be together and live in harmony with each other by participation, co-operation, mutual understanding and to help needy community members in India.
These principles set by foresighted founding members were adopted by those who joined them from all the different parts of the world such as East Africa, Fiji and India and are still important today as they were then.
Through determination and commitment, the majority of our members have advanced from their immigrant roots to affluent and influential individuals in all fields. However, we have not lost sight of the founding principles that this organisation is based on and which were very much prevalent in the early days. The Mandal continues to build on the original principles of enhance then to ensure the Mandal and its members are ‘Working Better for the Community’. Events and gatherings such as annual Navratri, social functions such as Over 60’s events and off course Sammelan – fuses the community together.
In 1997 The Darji Pavilion was established to provide our community with a venue where not only Darji’s can celebrate occasions but also suit a wide range of communities either for religious occasions, bereavement, dinner parties etc.
Over the years members of the Mandal have served the organisation with passion, integrity, great personal commitment often without praise. We have valuable volunteers who continuously dedicate and commit their time for the benefit of the community.
